Dillon Francis Faking German Accent To Seem More Underground

US EDM star Dillon Francis has today revealed how he is now speaking with a faux German accent in a bid to seem more credible to the underground dance community.

The DJ, who has made millions producing pop friendly EDM, reportedly came to the decision to alter his accent after concluding that it was probably the easiest way to seem innovative and underground.

“There comes a time in every DJ’s life where they have to display their underground chops,” he said. “Not by rejecting the jet set lifestyle of the superstar DJ or by pushing things forward sonically and musically. All of that is unnecessary when the only thing you really need to do is speak in a faintly Germanic sounding accent and you achieve the same result.”

Displaying his work in progress German accent to assembled press Mr. Francis was said to sound like a “a faintly exaggerated version of Richie Hawtin’s strange hybrid accent” except not as enthusiastic and worth listening to.

Dillon spoke about his accent training regime which involves listening to the delicate yet crisp cadence of David Hasselhoff’s German speaking voice, taking photos of himself in front of some 808s, calling all dance music techno, photo-shopping pictures of him standing next to Sven Vath and only wearing black t-shirts

“Anyone can sound relevant and credible if they train their voice, all you really need to do is speak in a soft, po-faced serious tone with a German lilt and and people will instantly think that you’re a Berlin stalwart regardless of the music you play,” he claimed. “I tried it out on some friends last week and almost instantly they assumed I was a forward thinking techno DJ and asked me for guestlist to Berghain.”

Dillon has said that he should be able to assess the success of his project at next week’s Amsterdam Dance Event and says that if he fools some real Germans “he’ll probably keep doing it until having a German accent becomes commercial, at which point I’ll feign whatever accent encapsulates the underground” and that hopefully he’ll “at least get a Boiler Room out of it”.

“Once I get on Boiler Room then I’ll know I’m probably an underground hero despite how inappropriate for the club my set is,” concluded the star. “Just like Grimes.”
