A survey carried out by the International Association of Trends and Fads has revealed that the majority of people who considered themselves EDM fans last summer now believe they are too old to listen to the burgeoning genre.
Dutch EDM stalwart, Tiesto, has revealed that despite the seemingly negative connotations of the survey’s results, they are likely to have little or no impact on the genre’s popularity.
Wunderground caught up with the producer earlier today, “I’m not surprised by that at all. We turn over fans in the EDM industry quicker than an Amsterdam peep shows turns over cum clean up staff.”
“It happens every year, we market our music to children, or people who have a similar IQ to a child, so naturally as they get older and smarter their tastes change and they realise that what they once thought was cool is actually just shit,” claimed the DJ. “How many adults do you see watching Sesame Street? It’s the same for EDM, I guess you could say we’re the Disney Channel of electronic music,” he added.
“Producing music is no longer the biggest obstacle facing up and coming EDM artists,” revealed Tiesto. “Most of the tracks released today could be made in twenty minutes using Music 2000 on the Playstation 2.”
“The biggest challenge nowadays is being able to convince new idiots to vote for you every year in the DJ Mag poll,” he said, before asking if we could replace the word idiots with the word fans. We couldn’t. “That’s why guys like me and David (Guetta), who consistently make the top 10, deserve to be paid such astronomical amounts of money,” he concluded.
A follow up to the study has revealed that the majority of fans who distanced themselves from EDM have now graduated school and gone on to listen to good music, while a small minority, based largely around American trailer parks, have remained loyal to the genre.
