The international dance music community has been left in shock after a DJ performed an entire set without streaming any of it live on Facebook.
The little-known DJ, Martin Stiles, a.k.a DJ Stileish, made the shock decision not to stream his set in an attempt to be seen as an underground act.
“Everyone is live streaming their sets these days,” Stiles told Wunderground earlier. “It’s all very mainstream and that’s not what I’m about. I’m trying to make my name as an underground DJ and I figure the best way to do that is to make sure that nobody knows who I am. For me, the best way to stand out is to go completely unnoticed and not streaming my sets is the best way to do that.”
Eighteen-year-old dance music fan Ben told Wunderground that he was totally devastated to hear of Stiles’s unbroadcast set.
“I feel shocked and betrayed,” sobbed Ben. “What kind of world are we living in when I can log into Facebook and not see some random DJ I’ve never heard of streaming a set live on Facebook? I’m not saying I definitely would have watched but it would have been nice to have the option.”
“Now, I’ll spend the rest of my life not knowing a, how shit his tunes were and b, how shit he was at mixing them. That’s the kind of thing that’s really going to bug me.”
According to experts, as many as one in five DJ sets go unstreamed, prompting local charities to start a “Smartphones for DJs” drive to ensure that all DJs have the technology needed to broadcast every set they ever play to the entire world via Facebook.
