Bedroom DJ Posts Photos Of His Equipment Setup So People Know He’s Really A DJ
A young bedroom DJ, fed up with people disbelieving that he was “a real DJ”, has discovered a remarkable yet simple way to convince his doubters wrong by posting a series of photographs of the mixing set up he has in his bedroom.
“I knew people that sort of passingly knew that I was into spinning records,” explained Adam Barnes from Oldham, where he works at the local branch of Curry’s spending his time grumblingly telling old people which piece of soon-to-be obsolete technology they should overpay for. “But unfortunately most of them were doubtful due to the fact that I’ve never played a gig and and have only been heard play by my Mum, and even she has never been known to express anything other than disdain for my career.”
Adam decided the only way to convince people of his seriousness as a DJ, rather than to play a gig or practice mixing, was to update his Facebook with a steady stream of photographs of his decks, laptop, controllers and monitors.
“I’d already been taking photographs of the equipment and cooing slightly to myself with pleasure at how amazing the equipment was,” explained Adam. “It was only after I had been failing to gain any respect as a DJ that I decided to publish them on Facebook.”
Before posting the photos Adam claims that his attempts to convince people of him being a DJ by using status updates talking about mixing by saying things like, “nothing beats a nice long mix” or “working on a spring/summer mix that’s going to be sick”, were falling on deaf uninterested ears and that posting the photographs was simply the final choice.
Adam claims that the response to his post was “pretty much immediate” and that fellow DJ friends of his quickly began liking and commenting on the five photo album detailing the set up of his equipment from a variety of flattering yet informative angles.
“I went for the classic straight down across the two CDJs, showing the mixer, controller and laptop,” explained an enthusiastic Adam while holding his fingers in a square in the way that Hollywood directors like to do when partitioning a shot. “Then one from either side, another one at a slightly off-angle and finally one with me standing behind them with headphones draped across my neck looking serious that my Mum took.”
“I even added some turntables into one shot, but I don’t know how to use them,” added Adam.
“Everybody loved the photos,” gushed Adam. “Straight away they began complimenting me on my set up and asking questions about how much it cost or what programs I preferred to use. Pretty soon they were sending me pics of their set up and chatting at length about the merits of this or that. Finally, after days of DJing, people finally think that I’m a real DJ and not just a bedroom poser. I’m delighted.”
Adam offered this advice to anyone who wants to be taken seriously as a DJ but is struggling to garner the respect of the peers, “All you have to do really is start posting pictures of random pieces of DJing equipment and feign a detailed knowledge of their use,” before also suggesting “posting status updates asking for opinions on different pieces of obscure equipment to make it look like you’re about to buy some but, because you’re such a serious DJ you need to take into a lengthy consideration process”, follow those guidelines and, according to Adam, “people will think you’re a DJ without ever having to DJ”.
